What I believe this quote is trying to condemn is, you should always be 100% truthful and not lie any bit. If you're going to be abstinent, then be abstinent everyday, not just predominantly every month. For example Jim morrison was a rock star but poet. He couldn't handle being both in unison. So he decided to become a full time poet. He ended up dying in paris, and had joined the 27 club. In conclusion victor is right and you should always be 100 and real.
