This quote means, that you should have a goal and endpoint. Without a goal you will just be wasting your time. You will just end up being a regular old joe and get stuck in a crappy life. Goals are what make people try and gives reason to your life. Without it it would just like embezzling your life, because you will think you're making something out of it. All those hours you spent longing for your dreams to come true, will be a waste, and there is nothing you can do to reimburse lost time. This quote is super true, because I can relate. I don't want to conform to society's standards I want to do something important, like writing music. My main goal right now is to graduate high school. So wasting time is like, being stranded in the middle of the ocean in a small but safe boat. You are afraid of getting out of your tiny boat that you stay in it for years and years. Then one day you have had enough and put your feet in the water only to realise the declevity of the water is so low, you can pretty much walk to land. See all that time you wasted in staying in the boat was a waste. I would rather get myself killed than wait to be killed. So in conclusion this dood here has a point.
